Pronto! The best “55 views” YouTube video evar! (via Shouts from the Abyss)

WordPress ated this caption. Sorry, I no longer remember it. LOLZ!

Short on blogging ideas, I decided to go back exactly one year and see what happened on This Day In Abyss History.

Turns out it was exactly one year ago today that I introduced the blogging world to a little discovery a mine. Steven is a fellow WordPress blogger and publishes videos to his own YouTube channel.

The video about “Pronto” is still apropos and a must see for anyone considering the purchase of this game as a Christmas gift.

I set foot in a WalMart recently (for cat food and cat litter) and saw something interesting. It’s the redesign, reissue and repurposing (this year’s hot new trendy word) of old board games as something “new.” Apparently the people who make board games are out of ideas.

There was a new version of Monopoly with Lego bricks. There were new versions of Sorry with Lego bricks. This must be the board game equivalent of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. “Hey, you got Monopoly in in my Lego bricks. Well you got Lego bricks in my Monopoly.” That’s “two great tastes” and all that stuff. You know what happens next? The combine those old and busted elements to make a whole new game. And then they eat that new game. Delicious!

If there is one thing that the owners of IP (intellectual property) want it is this: To milk more mileage out of their dated and tired products. Monopoly and Sorry are just two examples. I mean, how many people do you know who are running out and buying the traditional versions of these games as gifts? Not many, I’ll bet.

No where is this phenomenon more prevalent than in the exciting, high fashion world of Scrabble. We even fell for it once with a card game called Scrabble Slam. Talk about boring!

Sometimes on YouTube you get lucky. This is a rare gem. And I can’t believe it only has 55 views. This guy has got it all: screen presence, wit, a keen mind and biting humor. You must watch the whole thing. And no, I’m not being sarcastic. He’s hilarious! His YouTube profile says he wants to “write comedy” someday and I think he’s off to a great start. And he’s even a fellow WordPress blogger. Enjoy! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hxDcC … Read More
