I don’t have much I can add to this, and “Like” seems totally inappropriate even though this “Like” is not the same as liking something in the day to day world . . . but I have to say I concur: the punishment can never equal what the victim went through. The victim can never made whole.

    1. I agree. There are times when the “like” button seems totally inappropriate. Like when one of my favorite bloggers wrote his goodbye post.

This post was knee jerk and off the cuff. I didn’t think it through. After sleeping on it, I don’t think I’d change it, though. Yes, the victim can never be made whole. I think that’s probably true of almost any crime. I think the other side of that coin is that the punishment can never equal was is deserved. Even death seems too good for people.

  2. WTF! This is truly a messed up story, I have stopped being suprised nowadays but my mouth open like a fish when I read stuff like this…

    1. I think I’m about that jaded, too. I have to admit the part about suffocating in a box made me angry, but not very surprised. The part about forcing the little girl to eat dog shit, though, that was still able to surprise, even me. That little twist gives us a glimpse of who we’re really dealing with here.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out how that little girl was still in the home. If a single human being on planet Earth really did witness an incident where she was forced to eat dog feces, there is no way in Hell that girl should have been left in that home. Somewhere, somehow, the system broke down. The clues were there if anyone had wanted to save her. Sadly, they didn’t.

This is all just my opinion. The people arrested in this case are, of course, innocent until proven guilty. As we all know, however, that sort of legal mumbo jumbo has absolutely nothing to do with what really happened.

  3. Maybe we can not really punish those responsible but at least we can make sure they do not destroy another child.

    1. I sure hope to hell the outcome is that good. Like I said, prepare for the little dance known as the sidestep. I think the only real thing I’m curious about is if we’ll see apologies in this case as part of a “let me off the hook” strategy. Somehow I doubt it.

  4. Sadly, justice is just a word in today’s legal system. These people need to not exist.

  5. So horrible. Reading or hearing stories like this makes me feel sad and powerless. And, unfortunately, they are too common. Good post.

    1. Thanks. Every once in a while a news story really grabs me and shakes hard. It’s not fun but it brings out a part of me that has to speak.
