I recently updated by bio to include “singer” and “songwriter.” My dishonesty is your pain. This is where you pay for tuning in.
Behold, the newest member of the Abyss family. A humble little ditty called “My Christmas Song.” Be advised: You should not listen to this.
Fun fact: I was channeling Burl Ives when I laid down the vocal tracks.

Takin’ a stab at it
Do you believe in love at first sight? The other day while driving my friend to the airport, my ears caught this song on his fancy premium digital radio system. I was like, “What the? This is awesome. Swoon!”
Overcome by emotion I swerved and almost crammed into a concrete barrier.
It was one of those moments where you’re floating along, from moment to moment, and not even realizing it, kind of like a feather floating on a breeze. Then, almost in self defense, your thought bubble suffers an intrusion and you become aware of something. Really aware.
That’s what happened with this song. It reached out and grabbed me. Far too quickly the moment was over so I fiercely committed the name of the musical artist to memory. Sick Puppies. I have got to get me some more of that.
You don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.
Old wisdom we’ve all heard before. The Sick Puppies take such a simple idea and turn it into a transcendental experience. And it’s got a toe-tappin’ beat. The interpretation offered by this video selection is a runaway stagecoach ride of fun.

Walk On By
You didn’t walk on by this post? You pervert.
So, yeah, Hal David recently passed away. It was on Sept. 1, 2012. I was on another WordPress blog and they were discussing his passing and that he had written many hit songs with Burt Bacharach including Walk On By. I added to the discussion and said that I was pretty sure I had mentioned that particular song on my blog in the past.
It turns out I was wrong. There are apparently at least two different songs that share that same name. Who knew? And I was remembering the other one. Of course.
You know the one, right? It was co-written by Tiger Woods, Bill Clinton, Brett Favre, and Anthony Weiner, et al. It’s a romantic little ditty about a fellow walking down the street with his new girl. Along the way he spies his former lover that he’s still in love with and he gets a touching idea. Why not have his cake and eat it, too? Keep it a secret, but give the old flame the signal that his fire still burns. In other words, he’s ready for a little nookie on the side.

Soul Companion
Today I feature a few songs from the brilliant career of Mary Chapin Carpenter. If you’ve never heard of her, you’re in for a real treat. I urge you to run out and by every album she’s ever made.
If you already know her, chances are you remember her twangy country and western beginnings in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Songs like Never Had It So Good, You Win Again, Down at the Twist and Shout, I Feel Lucky,and He Thinks He’ll Keep Her.
Thankfully she never stopped producing fantastic music. Singer, songwriter, musician and entertainer, she does it all. Here’s a few favorite songs from her including a 2012 duet with James Taylor that is not to be missed.
