BlogFestivus – Day Five: Cometo

It was snowing in the city by the North Pole. A hard snow. The kind of snow that jingled bells or even made a jolly fat man obsessed with giving toys and candy to other people’s children seem sort of not so bad. If you get my drift.

Out of the flurries a figure of a reindeer slowly emerged. Shadowy and indistinct, the ghost-like form took on substance as it drew closer. It was Comet, the recently escaped reindeer. He had returned. There was a scowl on his face and the chewed stump of a cigar clenched between his teeth. His eyes glinted with purpose. In his hooves, held at the ready, was a fully loaded and cocked candy cane and he wasn’t afraid to use it. Across his chest was a bandolier containing thousands more, only tinier and individually wrapped.

cometAvoiding the trip wires of near-invisible silvery garland, he dashed towards the compound. Near the main house was a fenced arena adjacent to a barn. He hoofed it in that direction, dodging the holly grenades that were lobbed at him. He was careful because the little points on those things can really hurt!

He almost bought the farm when he was momentarily distracted by the mistletoe but he recovered.

Arriving at the barn, he flung open the door and shouted, “Fly, you fools! No more indentured servitude!” He cajoled them out the door.

“I’ll meet you at the rendezvous. Zihuatanejo!”

This post is part of Blogdramedy’s 2012 BlogFestivus challenge where festivants are cajoled and harassed into writing nine stories in nine days about nine reindeers. Each story has to be exactly 243 words in length. Happy Festivus to all!

    1. Wasn’t Tuco a little loco? 🙂 Yeah, I see him like that, too, although he was patterned after a slightly different movie character.

      1. Which character? Do tell. (I don’t watch a whole lot of movies and tend to miss out.) Yeah, Tuco was a LOT loco!

  1. Been having problems linking to your blog, so I was glad when I eventually opened this one. Dark and moody, Comet, the cany-toting bandit, loved the concept! 😀

    1. The concept was born when I just couldn’t bring myself to use the word “gun.” No brainpower was needed.

      Thanks!

  4. I loved this one. Although the title had me singing, “Domo arigato mister cometo…domo…domo” — which sadly did not match the story.

    1. It may match the story more than you think. 🙂 I love the song. Good hot tub memories. And I had the exact same thought, too.

To be honest, there was a reason I put the “O” on his name but I no longer remember what it was. I’m just that cryptic!!! 🙂

  5. It was just a matter of time before Comet went all Rambo on them!

    1. There’s your answer, jrosenberry1. I knew some scientific genius would finally mention the prototype! 🙂
