Jude Law is now public enemy number one

judelawIn the movie Repo Men, Jude Law says something like this: “At the end, a job is not just a job. It is who you are. If you want to change who you are, you’ve got to change what you do.”

People who love their jobs can be so irritating to those of us who don’t! A statement like that makes me want to repo his face!

I understand what Law is saying (actually the character named Remy) but give me a break! My job is who am I? What a crock! I guess that makes me a steaming pile of shit.

Disclaimer: I haven’t seen the movie. The line I may or may not have exactly right comes from the Repo Men trailer. And don’t get me wrong. I like very much the premise of a movie where guys dismember deadbeat customers and take back their bodily organs. What a nifty idea! I have to admit I daydream about the same thing with my customers.

Remy has it all wrong, though, except for the lucky .01 percent that actually are lucky enough to love their jobs. The rest of us have to slog along licking boots, kissing ass and spending most of our working lives on our knees. And I draw the line at saying those types of activities define who I am as a human being.

I only do it while staring down the barrel of a gun. I do it because I’m forced. Forced by a desire to have food and shelter and other things that same people take for granted. I do it because I simply have no choice.

I am not answering telephones. I am not selling crap that is cheaply made in foreign countries. I am not the humiliation I suffer at the hands of my boss.

Jude, I hope your next movie finds some way to repent for this atrocious quote. I sure hope you hurled the first few times you said it.
