Sarah Palin is a liar

Note: Don’t ya hate it when you think of a post title that is informative and humorous, then you plug it into the google and find out it’s not as unique as you had hoped? You betcha! wink, wink. Oh well, I’m sticking with it.

It might not seem like it, but I really have nothing much against Sarah Palin as person. She’s a real person with real feelings. I get that.

My only real beef with her is that she is a liar. I don’t care if she has a different point of view than my own. That is actually part of what makes this country great. But using lies to manipulate and deceive is wrong. If you can’t sell with the truth then you need to re-evaluate what you are selling.

The web site PolitiFact.com has a page they call the “Sarah Palin file.” It is a page where they assess the truthfulness of statements made by Palin. For a figure so prominent on the national stage the lack of honesty is quite alarming.

Then today I found this on the Wall Street Journal web site. The following tidbit is made even more impressive when you consider that the WSJ is owned by Rupert Murdoch:

It is her mastery of the lament that explained former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s appeal last year, and now her knack for self-pity is on full display in her book, “Going Rogue.” This is the memoir as prolonged, keening wail, larded with petty vindictiveness. With an impressive attention to detail, Ms. Palin settles every score, answers every criticism; locates a scapegoat for every foul-up, and fastens an insult on every critic, down to the last obscure Palin-doubter back in Alaska.

When it comes to politicians, the TRUTH is of paramount importance, at least to me. Just tell me the truth. That’s all I ask. If you stick with the truth you have a chance of getting me to see your point. Without truth I’ve got absolutely no use for you. In the final analysis, Palin is nothing more than a snake oil salesperson, and we have far, far too many of those these days.

Sarah, this one’s for you:

I don’t want some pretty face to tell me pretty lies
All I want is someone to believe

  1. I think this bit from Overheard in the Newsroom pretty much sums up my feelings about Sarah Palin:

Reporter: “Are you going to read Sarah Palin’s biography? Or would you rather read Tucker Max?”

City Editor: “Tucker Max only makes me want to gouge out my eyes. Sarah Palin makes me want to gouge out my uterus.”

  2. I don’t have anything against her as a person, either.

That said – – I’m not sure what politician is honest? One point or another, they all seem to be caught in some sort of lie. It is so depressing.

    Anyway!

  3. That’s a good point and it certainly has a lot of validity. I can grok a statement like that.

On the other hand, I have a problem with someone who seemingly goes way out of their way to say something as ridiculous as “day is night” or whatnot, and even seems to do it in a vicious partisan sort of way. In a nutshell, to me, that is the Palin problem.

There is no way that her statements regarding “death panels” can be reconciled with what is true. It isn’t simply a difference of opinion. It’s a complete falsehood. That’s where she loses me.

If she knows it is false and still repeats it, she is crass and manipulative. If she really thinks what she’s saying is true, then she’s merely delusional. I’m beginning to think it’s some of the former and more of the latter.

And you used the word grok. Twenty points for you, my friend!

  12. Elric, you can’t even parse text apparently. I said truth from politicians is very important to me. How you take from that I “could care less” about lies from other politicians baffles me. That is a solid example of how you leap to assumptions. You assume hypocrisy. That doesn’t automatically make it true.

Curious, what lie from Obama would you equate as equal in crassness and magnitude as Palin’s “death panels” sound bite?

Palin a private citizen? Ha! How many private citizens do you know flit around the country making speeches, authoring political books, and issuing endorsements of political candidates? Perhaps calling her a “politician” since she resigned her office and isn’t currently seeking office is technically incorrect. But claiming she isn’t a politician is putting too fine a point on it. It’s not a lie. It’s a valid opinion.

Another difference between you and me? I don’t call you names for who you choose to politically support. I don’t assume you are an idiot because you have different beliefs that me. That is what I find sad, odd and disturbing.

Well besides that its true? Well how about ummm stating in 2006 KSM would get a full military trial? Campaigned during the elections that we needed more troops and hasnt done crap about it for a year. His various excuses for Wright. He wouldnt raise taxes on the middle class. Shall I go on?

  13. Jihad against Palin? Is this person serious? I am astonished to find I share a planet with someone who feels Palin has been the victim of a Jihad. I must reassess every single belief I have. Perhaps Jesus was a stonemason, not a carpenter? Perhaps the modern Star Wars films ARE good after all? Perhaps some folk should lighten up and take other people’s blogs in the spirit of humour in which they are posted?

  14. If she is a “politician” right now is very much a matter of opinion. You call her a “private citizen.” I call bullshiat on that. If you truly believe she is a private citizen then you are delusional. I already conceded she’s not a full blown actively campaigning “politician.” I’m just pointing out that your argument for defending her on that basis is splitting some very fine hairs. Not much validity to that position in my humble opinion.

As far as your Obama point, I would merely state that failing to follow through on a campaign promise is different than deliberately lying to manipulate and deceive. Many a politician has meant what they said at the moment they said it and then revised their opinions later on. George Bush and George W. Bush both come to mind in that department.

As it happens, politicians keeping their promises is very important to me. But that’s another discussion and has nothing to do with whether or not Palin is lying. Once against you’ve tried to change the subject and distract.

    1. Until Pali holds a public office, she is a private citizen. But we cant let that get in the way of the obsession people have of her. Even if she lies, so what? Why do you care? If you really cared, you would be focused on congress lying about all this legislation they are ramming down our thoughts. So why do you care?

  15. This post on this blog just proves my point. Worried about some book by a private citizen “lying” in a book.instead of focusing on actual elected politicians that lie to the people everyday. Did the AP have 11 staff members dig through al-Thuggy’s books to fact check? Did CNN ever do a fact check on a SNL skit that involved Palin or Bush? Please.

    1. OK, one more reply for you. 🙂 Lying in a book? Who said that was my beef? My beef is the lie itself. The lie she repeats when interviewed, in speeches, on her blog, Facebook and Twitter, and pretty much everywhere else she goes. It’s not about the book. It is about the lie. And not once have you ever addressed that.

      1. Again, why do you care? Why her? Why not any other author? Why the obsession with her?

The only way to refute “Sarah Palin is a liar” is to demonstrate that what she’s saying isn’t a lie. I note with some interest you opt to avoid that strategy at all costs. 🙂

And why do you care? She doesnt hold political office. Why not focus on someone who affects policy? Oh wait, we cant do that. Lets focus on Palin.
